Pastor Mike and his wife Chelly have pastored Whatcom New Life Assembly since November of 2000 when the church was known as Ferndale Assembly of God. They came to Ferndale after a short stint of transitional ministry in Seattle and several years ministering as Associate Pastors in an international church setting in Indonesia. Both Julius and James were born since Mike & Chelly came to Ferndale.
Pastor Mike enjoys spending time with family, traveling and eating unusual foods. Mike is a geek at heart and has always liked tech. His latest hobby interest is micro-controllers and basic electronics. His current projects (that may never get finished) are a wireless mailbox notification system for his dad and LED back-lighting for the cross on the end of WNLA's building. He also has a great desire to fly, what he calls his "someday soon dream."
Mike is a Washington native, born in Pasco and raised for the most part in the Seattle area but has international flavor. As a boy, he and his family lived for 10 months in Iran. He has lived in Indonesia and the Philippines as an adult. It was in the Philippines he earned his M.A. Ministry and M. Div. degrees at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary in Baguio City.
It is Pastor Mike's great desire to develop a caring community where people come to worship God, in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, as they grow to know and fulfill God's purposes for their lives. This, he says, is what church is all about, the fulfillment of God's purposes for His church and His people.
